Week 12: Your favourite personality trait
“It’s okay to be absurd, ridiculous, and downright irrational at times; silliness is sweet syrup that helps us swallow the bitter pills of life.”
I love to be silly. Obviously there is a time and a place for silliness and for being sensible but I definitely think it is important to be able to be silly and not take things too seriously. At school I was never part of the ‘cool’ group but I was having far too much fun playing handbells, making up silly plays and having sleepovers.
I am now a 29 year old mum, wife and teacher. To be a mum and teacher I know it is essential to be able to be silly. Getting up in front of class of teenagers every day you cannot take yourself too seriously and you have to be prepared to laugh at yourself. I think Zara likes my silliness. She rewards my ridiculous singing and prancing around with smiles and giggles.
I am grateful that I have lots of friends and family to be silly with. My sister and I have perfected ‘the normal face’, my best friend and I have done Zumba in a restaurant and my husband and I dance in the kitchen.
Maybe one day I will grow up but for now I’m happy being silly.
