Week 26: Someone you got to meet
I’ve really struggled with week 26. There are so many people I’m grateful I got to meet…every single one of my friends and of course my husband. I’m afraid I will have to go for the rather cliched cheesy choice of saying I am so grateful that I met Dan, my husband. Meeting him will always stand out above anyone else I have ever met.
It is coming up our 8th Wedding Anniversary but we been together for just over 12 years. Sadly the story of how we got together is not one I’m particularly proud of but we were young and a bit silly and fortunately it all worked out in the end! We met at 6th form when I was in Year 12 and Dan in Year 13. I actually first spotted Dan when he was drumming at a youth event. I pointed him out to a friend and it transpired that she knew him from school. I had a boyfriend at the time but my naughty 17 year old brain couldn’t stop thinking about Dan. There were a few months of bumping into each other in clubs and alleyways before we had our first official date on March 20th 2004. I went to Dan’s house and he cooked me a spinach and ricotta puff pastry tart (I was a vegetarian at the time) with chips.
Meeting Dan definitely changed my life. I’ve said it before but I’ll say it again. Dan is one of the most positive, optimistic, relaxed people you will ever meet and he is so good for me. There are obvious things that have resulted from meeting Dan such as getting married and having Zara but so many amazing things have happened as a result of being with him. We’ve played in bands together and played all over the UK and Europe. I don’t think I could have done that without him. Dan encourages me, calms me down and helps me put things in perspective.
Dan’s grandparents are actually good friends with my parents and have been family friends for years. Before I started at 6th form Dan’s Grandad told me I might meet his Grandson Dan. Well I’m so glad I did.
This is the one of the oldest photos I can find of us but it was still taken 3 years after we were together!
